During this season, so many customers come in saying "I need a sew-in ASAP!" or "My hair is getting so dry, what should I do?" Sew-ins and wigs are the TOP choices for fall and winter protective styles but they have to be done properly! Many people say these styles will take your hair out but if you do it right, your hair will love it!
The first and most important step is choosing the right hair. We suggest human hair like our raw Indian hair or a human hair mix like the classic purple pack. The quality of your hair will suggest how long you can use them. Human hair will be the best choice because you will be able to reinstall your bundles as long as you take good care of them!
We suggest having your hair done professionally to make sure you don't have any problems but we understand how life works sis. If you want to save some coins and do it yourself, we got you!

]]>Detangling your hair wrong can be detrimental! You don't want to just keep pulling at your hair and causing it to break. Here are the steps to properly detangle your hair. First split your hair into four sections. This will make the whole process A LOT easier and this way you can make sure you get every strand. Apply a deep conditioner! My favorite choices are Mielle Babassu & Mint Deep Conditioner and Nature's Coconut Milk Strengthening Deep Conditioner. Split one of your sections in half. You want to get all of the knots out and get your product all throughout your hair. Gently finger detangle your largest knots. This will stop your hair from breaking off as much on your brush and save you from A LOT of pain. Start brushing from the bottom of your hair! You never want to start from the top. You always start from the bottom and move up. Starting from the top will cause more tangles and more breakage.
Turn your brush vertically to detangle. Vertically will help you separate all the hair and tangles. While styling, turn it horizontally to clump your curls. Once you've finished detangling your hair completely, you can wash your conditioner out and complete your styling process!
]]>When styling, it's recommended to use the L.O.C method which is liquid then oil then cream. This method will help you lock in the most moisture and your hair will be sooo thankful you did!
]]>First let's talk about what hair porosity even is. Hair Porosity is a measurement of the hair's ability to absorb and hold moisture. It is an indicator of how easily moisture can penetrate the hair. You ever wonder why you have to use sooo much water to get your wet or why it dries up sooo fast? It's because of your hair porosity!
Here are the signs you have High Porosity:
Here are signs you have Medium Porosity:
Here are signs of Low Porosity:
A quick trick to tell the porosity of your hair is after you wash your hair, take some strands of hair from your brush or comb (make sure the hair is clean to get accurate results) and drop them into a glass of water. Let them sit for a few minutes, and if the strands float, you likely have low porosity hair. If it sinks, you have high porosity hair.
Now that you know your hair porosity the next step is ... PRODUCTS!

When choosing a shampoo, you need with a moisturizing or clarifying shampoo! If your hair is dry and brittle, you need a shampoo which will not strip your hair but add moisture while cleansing it such as Mielle Babassu Conditioning Shampoo. If your hair has a lot of product build up, you need a shampoo which can break through and truly clean your scalp without damaging your hair. My top 2 clarifying shampoos would be Aunt Jackie’s Power Wash Clarifying Shampoo & Nature’s Little Secret Lemon and Rosemary Clarifying Shampoo. We all know what comes after shampooing .. Conditioner.
Some’s favorite part and some’s worst part. One of the most important things to consider when picking your conditioner is MOISTURE! You want your conditioner to moisturize and soften your hair before detangling. My personal favorites at the moment are Difeel Biotin Pro- Growth Conditioner & Nature’s Little Secret Rose Hydrating Conditioner.
Once you have washed and detangled, it’s time for your Leave - In Conditioner. DO NOT FORGET THIS STEP! This is going to add moisture to your hair. Leave- In is a lot lighter and less dense than conditioner. Depending on your hair time, many prefer a spray leave-in like Mielle White Peony Leave-In or ( a classic ) Crème of Nature’s Argon Oil Leave-In Spray.
Now it’s time for your styler! You can use a cream or styler to start styling your hair. If you have high porosity, use a heavy cream such as As I Am Double Butter or The Mane Choice Moisturizing Styling Cream to keep your hair hydrated longer. Another great styler for all hair types is Camille Rose Curl Maker. ( We’ll get more into styling soon )
You’re almost done. Just one last step .. OIL! I know a lot of people skip this step ( I’ve been guilty of it a few times smh) but OILING YOUR SCALP IS A NECESSITY! One of the best oils (all my customers will agree) is Mielle Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil. Now that you know the basics, you have all the power to start a wonderful and fulfilling natural hair journey!
